If you recently bought the Crave Brothers Les Frères cheese from Whole Foods, do not consume it, and contact a Whole Foods store as soon as possible.  Whole Foods recalled the Crave Brothers cheese brand because it is linked to a multi-state Listeria outbreak that has sickened at least five people, killed one person and caused a miscarriage.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, and can cause miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant women. The symptoms of Listeria can show up from 3-70 days after eating it, and include:

  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Stiffness
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea

The cheese was sold in Texas Whole Foods stores labeled as Les Frères with PLU number 299682, and in other Whole Foods stores across the nation by a variety of names and PLU numbers. The FDA has more information about where else the cheese was sold.

If you or a loved one ate this cheese, make sure you monitor yourself for Listeria food poisoning symptoms for the next few months. If you have suffered from food poisoning due to the negligence of a company, you deserve compensation for your physical and emotional turmoil.
