Officer Josh Williams, a 17-year veteran of the Waxahachie Police Department was killed after being hit by a suspected drunk driver this past weekend. Officer Williams was in his police cruiser on North Highway 77 when a 24-year-old man driving a SUV hit him.
Williams was responding to a reported disturbance at Taco Bell when the accident occurred. He was making a left turn into the restaurant when the SUV driver, Dylyn Richards, hit the passenger side of his car.
Richards had blood alcohol content above the legal limit, was speeding and his headlights were not on. Richards was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2009 and served two years probation.
The officer was given CPR and taken to Baylor Medical Center where he passed away. The alleged drunk driver was also taken to the hospital. When he is released he will be charged with intoxication manslaughter and transported to Ellis County Jail.
Williams’ fellow officers said he will be remembered for his passion for his work, kind smile, endearing personality and fun pranks. Williams leaves behind a wife and three daughters.
