Recently, Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Price- Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter concerning a car accident that killed his teammate and best friend, Jerry Brown.
24-year-old Brent was driving a car at a high speed on Highway 114 when the car clipped a curb and flipped over, landing in the middle of a service road. Based on field sobriety tests, the police arrested Brent for driving while intoxicated. His teammate 25-year-old Brown was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Brent was in his third season with the Dallas Cowboys. Brown had just joined the practice squad in October and was an expectant father. Brent and Brown were once college roommates and chose to live together in Dallas. Brent may be facing a second-degree felony, which could result in a two to 20-year prison sentence if charged.
Brent has been placed on the reserve/non-football illness list for the Dallas Cowboys. He will remain with the team, but not play again this season. He is not permitted to be on the sidelines of any games after appearing at a game after the accident and causing debate.
During Brent’s recent court appearance, a judge ordered Brent to wear an electronic ankle monitor, and also lowered his bond from $500,000 to $100,000. Brent also was told not to consume alcohol, and was fitted with a SCRAM device that will detect any alcohol consumption. Violation of these terms will result in Brent immediately returning to jail.
