Recently there was a fatal construction accident that involved three workers at a Jacksonville, TX construction site. As a cement crew worked on installing reinforcing steel to a 40-year-old retaining wall, it suddenly collapsed and killed two construction workers and injured one.
Donald Starling, 60, and Hollis Morris, 68, who were both killed, were residents of Tyler. The injured worker was 45-year-old Ronald Morris, who is Hollis’ son. He is suffering from a broken pelvis.
Firefighters quickly responded, but it still took a little over three hours to remove the bodies from the scene of the accident because it was impossible to get big equipment into the confined area to dig them out.
The retainer wall was 15 ft. tall, 40 ft. long and 1ft. thick. The workers used a shovel and their hands to work on it, according to officials. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s office and OSHA are investigating the construction accident to determine what went wrong.
