A few days before Christmas, another pedestrian was hit by a car in the intersection of Cedar Springs and Knight Street (see Google Maps). The 72-year-old man suffered injuries but was released from the hospital on Christmas day. The accident marks the fourth time a pedestrian was struck on Cedar Springs Road in the past two months, prompting officials to seek ways to make the area less dangerous.
The three other accidents involving pedestrians occurred on Nov. 3, Nov. 25, and Dec. 10. The victims in the first two accidents were killed. The series of accidents have prompted several city council members to ask for more stop lights and stop signs in high-risk areas. However, the city has as of yet released no plans to make the street safer.
Pedestrians are already vulnerable, but the combination of dangerous intersections and negligent drivers can be deadly. If you have been struck by a car while walking, contact W. T. Johnson today.
