In Montana Vista, NM three children from Dallas, TX were visiting their grandfather when they were struck and killed by a white Ford F-250 that ran a stop sign. The Ford hit the Chevrolet Impala the children were riding in. Their grandfather and a female passenger also died at the scene.
The 23-year-old driver of the vehicle, Alberto Coronado, is being held on five counts of intoxicated manslaughter. Allegedly, he was speeding, ignored the stop sign, hit the passenger side of the Impala and flipped it.
The children were in town for three weeks visiting their grandfather. Witnesses say they didn’t hear Coronado slow down, but heard him cleanly hit the vehicle the children were in. Witnesses ran over to the accident and tried to keep the children awake until the ambulance came, but they stopped breathing before help arrived.
Many residents say the area is known for speeding and collisions. Many drivers don’t stop at the stop sign and fly through.
