A construction accident occurred this weekend at the University of Texas-Dallas campus that involved a crane that collapsed and killed two workers. Workers were heard screaming while the incident occurred.
The men who died were 58-year-old Thomas Fairbrother, Jr. and 50-year-old Terry Weaver. Their official cause of death is blunt force injuries.
In the process of dismantling the crane, it collapsed, UT-Dallas stated on its website. The reason for the crane’s collapse could be the thunderstorms in the area that brought sudden wind gusts up to 50 m.p.h.
The workers were constructing an arts and technology building on campus. The building was scheduled to be completed next year. Now students and others are being asked to not enter that area of campus where the accident took place.
The contractor, Hunt Construction Group, is working with OSHA and local authorities, as stated on their website. No one else was injured, and now some UTD students are trying to get assistance for Fairbrother’s and Weaver’s families.
