There are many ways you or your loved ones can receive injuries from products you have around your home. But most injuries from products are the result of a negligent company. To help protect your family, here are some of the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s product recalls from June:
Philips Recalls Metal Halide Lamps Due to Fire, Laceration Hazards
The internal wiring in this lamp can arc, causing it to catch fire or the glass to shatter, which leads to fire and laceration hazards. Philips has received one report of a failure that damaged a lamp, but hasn’t received reports of injury yet.
The recalled products are egg-shaped, clear glass, 150-watt industrial metal halide lamps. The lamps were sold at professional electrical wholesale supply distributors for use by industrial and commercial property owners from November 2012 to April 2013 for about $20.
If you have this lamp, contact Philips for a full refund or a replacement. Philips will issue a refund as a credit to all distributors with recalled lamps in their inventories and will replace recalled lamps that have been installed at no cost to you.
Salsa Cycles Recalls Bicycle Forks Due to Fall Hazard
The bicycle fork can bend above the disc brake mount, posing a fall hazard to the rider. Salsa Cycles has received eight reports of forks bending above the disc brake mount, but no injuries have been reported yet.
The recalled products were sold individually or as original equipment on Salsa Vaya bicycles and framesets. Salsa Vaya bicycle forks are orange or dark gray, and La Cruz bicycle forks are black. They were sold at bicycle stores and on websites from February 2011 through June 2012 for about $100 individually for La Cruz forks and on Salsa Vaya bicycles for between $1,300 and $1,600.
If you have a bicycle with the recalled Salsa Vaya and La Cruz bicycle forks, contact a Salsa dealer for a free inspection, replacement fork or a full refund.
Polaris Recalls Ranger Off-Highway Vehicles Due to Burn Hazard
The firewall behind the driver and passenger seats can overheat and melt, resulting in a burn hazard. The firm has received one report of an incident involving a consumer who received burn injuries to a finger.
This product recall involves 2011 model Polaris Ranger RZR XP 900 recreational off-highway vehicles, which are either white or red and have a “RZR XP” decal on the right and left rear side panels. They were sold at Polaris dealers from May 2012 through February 2013 for between $16,000 and $16,600.
