Wooden blocks with letters spelling out the word "recall"

Here is yet another piece of recalled furniture – this one a 4-drawer chest sold exclusively at Kmart stores – that poses a dangerous tipping hazard.

The recall is effective August 11, 2020 and involves about 19,900 Essential Home Belmont 2.0 chests.  These were sold at Kmart stores and online by Kmart between March 2018 and April 2020.  There are very few, if any, Kmart stores remaining in Texas.  Still, it’s possible someone reading this has purchased – even online — and been harmed by one of these chests.

As we’ve blogged before, poorly designed furniture that easily tips over is unreasonably dangerous and defective, and very frequently causes severe injury and even death, especially to young children.  Children like to play on and around furniture, so it is essential that furniture be designed with enough stability to prevent hazardous tipping.  Heavy furniture that tips over on a child can cause immense tragedy.  This is a foreseeable risk of danger that can be avoided by proper design.

If you, one of your children or a close loved one has been seriously injured or died as a result of unstable or tipping furniture, televisions, or appliances, you should immediately contact the Dallas product liability attorneys at Crowe Arnold & Majors, LLP.  We have the experience to instruct you how to preserve the evidence, to analyze what occurred from a design standpoint, and to pursue a claim that may compensate you or your loved one for the tragedy that has occurred.
