One in four 12th grade students got drunk in the last month, and Texas has the most drunk driving crashes and fatalities in America, according to a new study by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Renee Varela’s son, Anthony, was a victim of a drunk driving crash. He had just spoken to a military recruiter and was looking at career options when he was killed by an underage drunk driver who was two times over the legal limit. The 19-year-old ran a red light at the intersection of Bruton Road and Buckner Boulevard in Dallas and hit the car Anthony was in.

The drunk driver, Aldo Valderrama, pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. He received a 12-year and a 10-year prison sentence.

Renee said one day Aldo will get out of jail and have a family, but that is something her son will never experience. Now the Dallas mom wants other teens to understand the painful consequences of drinking and driving so they won’t have to endure what her family has been through.

She wants teens to know that drinking is very dangerous, and she doesn’t want anyone to have to bury their child like she had to bury hers.

No one should have to endure the tragedy of their loved one being killed by a drunk driver. If you have suffered because of a drunk driver, you and your loved one deserve justice. Contact the Law Firm of W.T. Johnson today to get the compensation you are entitled to.
